Welcome to Ms. Kriska’s Block
Hello Students and Parents,
I hope you are all staying healthy and adjusting to all of this craziness. While we are projected to return to school at the end of April, things are so uncertain and none of us really know what’s to come at this point. The most important thing is that we all follow the advice of staying home and flattening the curve.
Here are some suggestions for you to help keep you sharp and stay busy during this time. Of course, none of this is required, but I hope you all will at least do a lot of reading and writing during this time.
Thank You! Darcy Kriska

- READ!!!!! Anything will do… try to stay challenged with reading at your level.
- Short stories
- Novels
- Try different genres
- WRITE!!!!!
- Now is a good time to journal. Write your thoughts about what is going on and what you are doing to keep busy each day.
- Write stories and edit/revise them like crazy to make books. You all know how to do this now – follow the fairy tale model or the research paper… or both!
- Practice editing short pieces such as paragraphs. Use your composition book for topics and resources.
- We recently put all of the remaining lessons in the composition book (coincidentally good timing). You could try to tackle some of those on your own. There is a lot to do there!
- SPEAKING!!!!!
- Practice giving one-minute speeches to your family. Use the suggested “free topic” list in your binders for ideas or come up with some on your own.
- Practice giving one-minute current event speeches to your family. You could stay updated with what is going on in the news and report back to your family.
Thank You! Darcy Kriska
